Western Michigan coach Lance Taylor again has a full staff after an offseason of significant change.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Taylor has hired Brandon Lacy to coach WMU’s defensive line.
Lacy, who spent the past three seasons on staff at Southern Miss, also formerly coached at Southeastern Louisiana and FCS perennial playoff contender Richmond.
In his new role, Lacy will specifically work with Western Michigan’s defensive ends and edge specialists.
Additionally, Taylor has promoted veteran assistant David Denham to recruiting coordinator in addition to his previous role as WMU’s defensive line coach. Denham is among the most tenured members of the staff at Western Michigan.
Taylor lost several coaches after his debut campaign in Kalamazoo, seeing offensive coordinator Billy Cosh land an FCS head coaching job and Lou Esposito return to his alma mater, Memphis.
Taylor also lost Robert Bala last month to a Power 5 assistant job.
Lacy played at Kansas and has logged several stops in his career, working almost exclusively with defensive linemen.
After an 4-8 debut campaign under Taylor, Western Michigan opens its 2024 season with a brutal, two-game Big Ten gauntlet: at Wisconsin and at Ohio State.
