Todd Monken has been hired as Georgia's new offensive coordinator at a salary of $1.1 million. He will not be Kirby Smart's highest paid assistant.
According to documents obtained Tuesday by the Athens Banner-Herald, defensive coordinator Dan Lanning will earn $1.25 million in 2020, a $500,000 raise from the $750,000 he earned in 2019. That represents an increase from 67 percent, which was signed on Dec. 10, according to the paper.
Lanning's salary would rate 14th nationally among assistant coaches based on 2019 figures.
Additionally, co-defensive coordinator/inside linebackers coach Glenn Schumann and defensive line coach Tray Scott will now earn equal salaries of $600,000. Schumann earned $550,000 in 2019, while Scott made $470,000.
Georgia's defense finished 2019 rated third nationally in total defense (275.7 yards per game), second in yards per play (4.29) and first in scoring (12.6) en route to a third consecutive SEC East title and a Sugar Bowl victory.
The Bulldogs return 10 starters from last year's unit to 2020, and expectations will be sky high.
On the support staff, director of player development Jonas Jennings earned a $100,000 raise to $406,000. While just about every Power 5 program has a player development director on staff, few of them have publicly-listed salaries, and Jennings's is the highest I can remember seeing (though I would be more than happy to be proven wrong).
