Dirk Koetter has announced his retirement following a remarkable career spanning nearly four decades.
Koetter's coaching career began as a young head coach at Highland HS (ID) back in the early 80's after his playing days at Idaho State came to an end, but what is most impressive has been his career after that.
For a really impressive stretch starting in 1995 and ending with the word of his retirement following the 2020 season, Koetter served as either the head coach or offensive coordinator at every remaining stop of his coaching career.
His head coaching stops were at the college level at Boise State (1998-2000) and Arizona State (2001-06) and in the NFL with the Tampa Bay Bucs (2016-18). Koetter went 26-10 in three years at Boise and then left for the head coaching job at Arizona State heading into the 2001 season. With the Sun Devils, Koetter went 40-34 in six seasons.
In 2016, after serving as the offensive coordinator for the Jaguars, Falcons, and Bucs, Koetter was elevated to head coach in Tampa. He went 9-7 his first season, but the organization decided to move in a new direction after two straight 5-11 seasons in 2017 and 2018. He ended his Tampa Bay tenure with a 19-29 mark.
Koetter spent the past two seasons as the offensive coordinator in Atlanta for Dan Quinn, who was let go in early October.
Please join us in wishing coach Koetter the best in the next chapter of his life after an outstanding career.
