As Florida continues to retool its staff heading into Year 2 under head coach Billy Napier, the Gators have added a top, young defensive coach with deep ties to Austin Armstrong to help the defense.
Sources tell FootballScoop that Cannon Gibbs is going to be a defensive analyst for the Gators and Armstrong, who was hired away from Alabama by Napier last month to run Florida's defense.
A former East Carolina linebacker, Gibbs has been on staff previously at Delta State and also worked with Armstrong as a defensive graduate assistant coach for Armstrong at Southern Mississippi.
Gibbs was slated to serve as linebackers coach at Central Arkansas this season.
The Gators are in the midst of their second spring camp under Napier, with their spring game set for April 13 under the lights in the Swamp. Florida opens its 2023 season Aug. 31 at Utah.
