Blake Harrell has a new cornerbacks coach, and Tarron Williams has a new role in a familiar place.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Harrell is hiring Williams to coach East Carolina's cornerbacks, plucking him away from Old Dominion where Williams had spent the past two seasons.
Harrell's Pirates defense, coincidentally, held ODU to just 14 points in a 20-14 East Carolina win last September.
Anyway, Williams returns to East Carolina but for the first time as an on-field assistant coach. He was East Carolina's director of player development there in a previous stop.
In addition to work at ECU and ODU, Williams, a former Gardner-Webb standout, also has coached at his alma mater, as well as Richmond and VMI.
Harrell was elevated to the interim coach and then named permanent head coach of the Pirates program after he helped spur one of the sport's best in-season turnarounds.
The Pirates finished their 2024 season 8-5 overall and beat North Carolina State in the postseason to cap the campaign.
Now, those two teams will meet again in their next contest. The Wolfpack are scheduled to host East Carolina Aug. 30.
