Sources: Chris Hatcher, Samford making strong hire of defensive coordinator Adam Braithwaite (Adam Braithwaite)

After following up 2022's break-through, 11-win campaign with another winning season in 2023, Chris Hatcher is finalizing a key hire for his Samford Bulldogs program moving toward the 2024 campaign.

Sources tell FootballScoop that Hatcher is finalizing a deal to hire Adam Braithwaite away from Tennessee Tech as the Bulldogs's new defensive coordinator.

Hatcher lost incumbent defensive coordinator Chris Boone to the FBS, when new Troy head coach Gerard Parker snagged Boone to help lead the Trojans defense.

In Braithwaite, Hatcher finds a veteran coordinator who also has Power 5 experience from multiple seasons at both Michigan and West Virginia.

Braithwaite has coordinated FCS defenses at Chattanooga, Richmond and Tennessee Tech.

A William & Mary graduate, Braithwaite also has logged service on the staff at his alma mater.

Samford, after an 6-5 2023 campaign, opens its 2024 season at West Georgia Aug. 31 before traveling a week later to the the Swamp to face Billy Napier's Florida Gators.
