Brian Schottenheimer continues to load his Cowboys staff up with college coordinators.
The latest to join his staff is UTEP defensive coordinator JJ Clark, who FootballScoop can confirm is joining the staff as assistant linebackers coach.
CBS Sports has also shared the Cowboys are expected to add him to the staff.
It marks the latest move in a rapid rise for Clark, who just four seasons ago was one of the coordinators in small college football at Indiana Wesleyan (NAIA).
During that time, Clark joined us for our Online Clinic during COVID where he talked Rip/Liz Match coverages in a brilliantly explained video that really resonated with the coaching community and has accumulated nearly 40k views.
After developing a defense at a brand new program that started from the ground up into one that ranked 2nd in scoring defense, 4th nationally in run defense, and among the top 20 in both sacks and total defense, Clark joined the staff of Scottie Walden at Austin Peay.
Initially hired to coach the linebackers, Clark was elevated to defensive coordinator and safeties coach after just one season and helped the Govs win nine games and a conference title in 2023.
Success has followed Clark each stop, as he also served as the defensive coordinator at his alma mater, Wheaton College (D-III - IL), where his units ranked among the top five in a number of key defensive metrics.
In Dallas, he will join Kansas State's Conor Riley (OL) and Oregon's Junior Adams (WRs) as recent college coordinators to make the jump to the NFL on Schottenheimer's staff.
