Sources confirm James Franklin, Penn State make strong offensive coordinator hire (andy kotelnicki)

James Franklin needs to jump-start his stagnant Penn State offense.

Sources confirm to FootballScoop that Franklin has done just that.

On Thursday, multiple sources confirmed to FootballScoop that Kansas offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki is departing the Jayhawks' rejuvenated program for Penn State.

Bruce Feldman first shared the news.

It's a much-needed move for Franklin, whose offense has only twice been in the top-25 in yards-per-play in Franklin's 10 seasons in Happy Valley.

Moreover, the Nittany Lions' offense has been 81st or lower in three of the last four years, including 2023.

Kotelnicki is set to become PSU's sixth different offensive coordinator under Franklin.

Despite injuries this season at the quarterback position, Kansas under Kotelnicki's guidance still generated college football's No. 29 scoring offense at 33.6 points per game; the Nittany Lions were held to just 12 and 15 points in their losses to Ohio State and Michigan.

In a related move, Kansas moved to retain quarterbacks coach JIm Zebrowski, giving him a raise and a promotion to co-offensive coordinator.
