Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi already had made significant changes on the heels of an disappointing season in the Steel City.
Turns out, Narduzzi wasn't remotely finished with making major moves.
Multiple sources tell FootballScoop that Narduzzi and the Panthers are moving on from offensive line coach Dave Borberly, running backs/special teams coach Andre Powell and, as FootballScoop's Doug Samuels previously noted, also parting with Tim Salem, the Panthers' former tight ends coach.
Pitt already has added Kade Bell as its new offensive coordinator.
Powell is arguably the more decorated coach on the staff; he's a former FootballScoop Special Teams Coordinator of the Year (2016). Powell had nearly a decade of service at Pitt, having just turned the calendar onto his 10th year at the school. Powell's work with Panthers running backs has been noteworthy; both James Conner and Israel Abanikanda, among others, have been superlative and transitioned to the NFL.
Borberly had just wrapped up his sixth season on Narduzzi's Pitt staff; he's also coached at notable football powers Notre Dame, Stanford and Tennessee, among myriad other stops in his long-running career.
Salem has coached more than 30 years and served multiple schools as offensive coordinator.
Narduzzi is seeking to get Pitt back on track after a stunning 3-9 campaign in which the Panthers won only twice in ACC play, a mere two years removed from an ACC Championship.
Pitt is scheduled to open its 2024 Aug. 31 at home against Kent State. The Panthers then have compelling back-to-back regional, non-conference rivalry tilts against Cincinnati and West Virginia.
