Scott and I had the pleasure of touring Oklahoma's two springs ago, and I came away feeling that the Sooners were behind some of their peers. I couldn't pinpoint any specific items OU lacked -- and the constant churn of victories on the field Bob Stoops has produced prove this assertion correct -- and, in a vacuum, I felt Oklahoma could continue with what it had into the foreseeable future.
This a place, we must remember, with enough Big 12 championship trophies that watching one burst into pieces is not a catastrophic event.
Of course, nothing in college football happens in a vacuum. Oklahoma State had better facilities. Texas A&M had better facilities. TCU and Baylor were close -- above in some aspects, equal in others. But it wasn't so much about better as it was about newer. The functionality of what Oklahoma had was fine, but the flash wasn't there. Recruits don't care about functionality, they care about flash. Stoops and the Oklahoma staff agreed. The Sooners are moving forward with a major facility facelift, and now they've released renderings and videos of what their new digs will look like. The facility upgrade is part of a comprehensive project to upgrade Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium that will see the Sooners move into their new-and-improved facility before kickoff of the 2017 season.
