Appalachian State will promote Shawn Clark to full-time head coach, according to the Winston-Salem Journal. The paper reports the school's board of regents will make the news official on Friday.
Clark has been the Mountaineers' offensive line coach for the past four seasons, first under Scott Satterfield and then Eli Drinkwitz. He was named interim head coach following Drinkwitz's departure for Missouri.
Additionally, the W-SJ reported Wednesday that App State AD Doug Gillin will remain in Boone after receiving consideration for the open job in Cincinnati.
The Mountaineers are 41-10 with four Sun Belt championships in Clark's four years on staff, including a conference-record 12-1 record this season. In addition to keeping that train of considerable success going by promoting Clark, the school also keeps an extremely popular figure in the locker room. From the W-SJ:
Clark led the team in its celebratory song after victories this season. Players would hoist Clark on their shoulders and sing with him, carrying on a tradition that started during Jerry Moore’s tenure at App State.
Clark's first game as App State's head coach will come in the New Orleans Bowl against UAB on Saturday, Dec. 21.
