Report: Bob Diaco has landed a defensive coordinator job (Louisiana Tech)

Bob Diaco, who started the season a defensive specialist before being promoted to was promoted to outside linebackers coach following the in-season dismissal of Sooners defensive coordinator Mike Stoops, has landed a defensive coordinator position.

According to BleedTechBlue, Diaco will be the new defensive coordinator at Louisiana Tech. He replaces Blake Baker, who left to become the defensive coordinator on Manny Diaz's staff at Miami.

Both Baker and Diaz used their success on defense at Louisiana Tech to help them land jobs at the Power 5 level. Baker at Miami, and Diaz turned it into an opportunity to run the defense at Mississippi State (for a second time), and then Miami. Like Diaz, who prior to Louisiana Tech ran the defense at Texas and Mississippi State, Diaco will have the unique opportunity to follow a similar blueprint if he can maintain the success LA Tech has had under both Baker and Diaz.

Diaco spent the 2017 season as the defensive coordinator at Nebraska, and has previously led defenses at Notre Dame, Cincinnati and Central Michigan. He also spent 2014-16 as the head coach at UConn, which marked his first head coaching job.

At UConn, Diaco went 11-26 in three seasons. He led to the program to a 2-10 finish in 2014, followed by a 6-7 mark and trip to the St. Petersburg bowl in 2015, before slipping to 3-9 in year three, leading to his dismissal.
