Sources tell FootballScoop UNLV has made the decision to part ways with head coach Tony Sanchez.
Sanchez, who was wildly successful as Bishop Gorman's head coach (going 85-5 in 6 seasons), has served as head coach of the Rebels the past 5 seasons.
In those five seasons as head coach, UNLV was competitive but could not get over the hump. Sanchez led the team to 3 wins his first season, then 4, 5, 4 and now 3 this year. Sanchez did move the program forward including fundraising for and building a new football facility.
They close out their season Saturday at Nevada (Reno).
UNLV's staff includes Tim Skipper (defensive coordinator), Garin Justice (offensive coordinator), Travis Burkett (STC / RBs), Cedric Cormier (WRs), Ron O'Dell (QBs), Ronnie Regula (TEs), Tony Samuel (DL), Eric Brown (OLBs), Al Simmons (Safeties) and Steve Irvin (Corners). Sean Manuel is the head strength coach for the program.
Sources tell FootballScoop Sanchez is expected to coach the final game.
Sharing the Raiders new stadium is a boost to the program as well. There will be significant interest in the job. Over the past few weeks the whisper in the profession was that both Houston Nutt and Butch Jones view this job as one where they can succeed.
As always stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest coaching job information.
