Temple and Matt Rhule have agreed to a contract extension

According SI and ESPN, Matt Rhule and Temple have agreed to a contract extension taking him through 2021.

Rhule, who left his post as the assistant offensive line coach under Tom Coughlin with the New York Giants, took the program over after Steve Addazio left for the head coaching job at Boston College. Rhule has an overall record of 8-16. Six of those wins came last season, following a 2-10 inaugural season leading the Owls and he own a 5-11 mark in American Conference play, following a 1-7 first season up with a 4-4 showing last season.

During the 2014 season, Rhule's Owls knocked off an SEC program (Vanderbilt), and also notched wins against a top 25 East Carolina squad. Their close losses included games against Navy (7 points), a ten-win Memphis squad (3 points), and Cincinnati (8 points).

Clearly, after two seasons, Rhule has the program moving in a positive direction, and the adminstration sees that.

Rhule's program returns a solid core group of players for 2015, and the schedule is full of winnable games, as well as a few challenges.

Unrelated; but some additional good news to share, Rhule and his wife added a second daughter to their family (joining son Bryant) this past week. Great week for the Rhule family!
