On Friday, Auburn's board of trustees will vote on a proposal to replace the south end zone scoreboard at Jordan-Hare Stadium with a 200-foot wide scoreboard that would be the largest in all of college football.
Although the exact measurements of the board aren't listed in the official proposal documents, it is believed to be so massive that it would surpass the video boards at Texas A&M which, at 47 feet by 163 feet, is currently the largest in college football. The estimated price tag for the project at Jordan Hare is right around $13.9 million.
Just to put that all in perspective, we took a look at the total expenses of football programs during the 2012-2013 season, courtesy of a Forbes study, and found that it's safe to say that $14 million would be more than about 100 FBS program (and likely all FCS programs) spent the entire season. Think about that for a second.
There's also this...
The only other video board that would come close, would be the new video boards in Levi's Stadium in San Francisco, where their boards measure 48 feet x 200 feet.
The new boards would be in place by August and ready for the 2015 season according to the Montgomery Advertiser. The home opener for the Tigers takes place against Jacksonville State on September 12th.
