Old Dominion has a $4.2 million, 17,000 square foot expansion planned for their football facility (Old Dominion)

It's about a year later than many had hoped for, but Old Dominion is finally set to move forward with an expansion of their football training facility after a number of delays to the process.

Since the Monarchs transition from the FCS ranks, they've been in desperate need of some additions. The FCS scholarship limit is set at 63, and FBS programs are allowed 85 (plus 30 walk-on's) so some players have been forced to double up on lockers, and graduate assistants desks can be found overflowing into the building's hallways, according to The Virginin-Pilot.

According to the Pilot, much of the square footage will be dedicated to a new weight room, along with the addition of new locker rooms for the coaching staff and larger rooms for equipment and training. The weight room that the program is using now will be re-purposed into an academic center for players

Under Bobby Wilder, the ODU program has made a pretty smooth transition into the FBS ranks and Conference USA, going 8-4 in 2013, followed by a 6-6 finish last year and stepping back a bit to 5-7 this fall.

This new addition will be a big asset for the program in recruiting and will surely help everyone in the football building operate more efficiently overall.
