Ed Warinner has been among the most accomplished offensive line coaches in America for quite some time. Now he's the most accomplished coaches in Europe as well.
The Rhein Fire announced Warinner as their new offensive coordinator on Tuesday. "His resume is very impressive," club president Martin Wagner said. "He works in a very structured manner and always has a list of questions with him in our video meetings that he works through."
Warinner, 63, celebrated 40 years in coaching this past fall as Florida Atlantic's assistant head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach. He won a national championship as Ohio State's co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach in 2014.
Additional stops took Warinner to Notre Dame and Michigan, as well as Akron, Michigan State, Army, Air Force, Kansas, Illinois, and Minnesota.
The Rhein Fire bears the same name as the NFL Europe outfit that existed from 1995 to 2007. This club was founded in 2021 as part of the European League of Football. Led by former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula, the Fire were ELF champions in 2023 and '24.
The Fire's title defense begins May 17 against the Paris Musketeers.
