Eddie George making changes to Bowling Green staff (Cornell Brown)

Less than a week after accepting the job and just days after meeting his new team and staff, Eddie George is beginning to make changes to the Bowling Green football program he takes over following his time at Tennessee State.

With spring practice imminent and the coaching transition extremely late in the cycle, George is keeping the majority of the Bowling Green staff he inherits in place.

However, George is making at least two changes -- and both on the defensive side of the ball.

Former Virginia Tech All-America selection and seven-year NFL player Cornell Brown is no longer Bowling Green's defensive line coach, a position he's just finishing his first year on the job.

Additionally, cornerbacks coach Robert Armand -- a fast-riser in the coaching profession just finishing his first year as a full-time, on-field assistant at Bowling Green -- also is a coaching "free agent" following George's Thursday meetings with staff.

A Stetson grad, Armand already possesses SEC experience from a pair of years on Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea's staffs, as well as a brief stop at Maine and work at his alma mater all prior to joining Bowling Green a year ago.

Both coaches are seeking future opportunities.

Also on Friday, sources tell FootballScoop that outside linebackers coach Sammy Lawanson is not being retained by George.

The coaches depart after helping the Falcons to an 7-6 2024 season, one including a postseason berth.

George is taking over following the abrupt departure of Scot Loeffler, now the quarterbacks coach for the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles.

While spring camp for Bowling Green is imminent, George is set to make his debut as Falcons head coach a bit earlier than most programs; Bowling Green hosts FCS program Lafayette on Thursday, Aug. 28, before traveling nine days later to in-state foe Cincinnati.

The Bearcats are entering a pivotal year for Scott Satterfield coming off a dreadful 5-7 season and carrying a five-game losing streak into the 2025 campaign.
