Mike Nesbitt has poured himself into the Ottawa University (NAIA - AZ) program since being hired to start the program from scratch back in April of 2017.
Nesbitt is leaving OUAZ for a new challenge, as he's accepted a role on the staff at Houston Christian (FCS - TX) as offensive coordinator.
Nesbitt led the startup Spirit program to a remarkable 50-15 record the past eight seasons.
Known around the country for his offensive approach, Nesbitt's offenses at OUAZ averaged around 45 points and nearly 500 yards per game during his time leading the team, finishing among the top six in total offense in seven of the past eight seasons.
Before taking the OUAZ head coaching job, Nesbitt led explosive offensive attacks at Blinn (JC - TX), West Texas A&M (D-II), Stephen F. Austin (FCS - TX) and briefly had a stop at Houston as offensive coordinator in 2012 before leaving the program in the fall.
Nesbitt also spent four seasons leading the West Texas A&M program from 2013-16, leading them to a top ten national ranking in 2013 after an 11-3 season. He led the program to three winning seasons in four years and a 25-17 record overall.
He leaves OUAZ after an 8-2 campaign last fall, and took home NAIA West Region Coach of the Year and conference coach of the year honors following their 2019 season.
He takes over a Houston Christian team with a 2025 slate that includes non-conference tilts with Eastern Kentucky (FCS), Nebraska and Northern Colorado before beginning their Southland Conference schedule.
