Iowa is reportedly adding an innovative former ACC coordinator to staff (Warren Ruggerio)

For the past several weeks, on the episodes we've been discussing coaching changes on the FootballScoop Podcast, I've wondered aloud where former Wake Forest offensive coordinator Warren Ruggerio would land.

Tonight, it looks like we got an answer, and - all things considered - I think it's safe to say his next stop is at a relatively unlikely destination.

CBS Sports shares that Ruggerio is joining the staff of Kirk Ferentz at Iowa.

The report adds that his role will be as a senior analyst.

An offensive coordinator with the Demon Deacons for the past 11 seasons, the 2021 Broyles Award finalist and multiple-time nominee captured the hearts and minds of offensive coaches everywhere with his installation of the "slow mesh" between the quarterback and running backs during RPOs.

The innovative approach has proven to be a thorn in the side of defenses at a school that had been historically overmatched in the ACC, helping Wake finish fourth nationally in scoring during a breakout 2021 season.

A veteran college play caller, Ruggerio started his coaching journey right after his playing career as a quarterback at Delaware ended, landing the play calling opportunity at Defiance College, a Division III program at the time located in Northwest Ohio.

He would go on to serve as the offensive coordinator at Clarion (D-II - PA) before landing the head coaching job at Glenville State (D-II - WV) where he went 9-3 in his first year and then 6-5 before leaving for FCS opportunities at Hofstra and Elon, where he had play calling duties.

After a stint as the quarterbacks coach for Bill Snyder at Kansas State in 2008, he would end up linking up with Dave Clawson at Bowling Green and then follow him when he took the job to Wake Forest.

At Iowa, he will work with noted RPO mind and innovator Tim Lester, who took over as the Iowa offensive coordinator heading into last season and had an immediate impact
