Maryland is expected to name Ted Monachino as its next defensive coordinator, Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports reported on Saturday.
Monachino was most recently North Carolina's defensive line coach, but he's best known for his decade and a half coaching in the NFL. He the defensive line or outside linebackers for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears and Atlanta Falcons from 2006-22, and spent 2016-17 as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts.
Monachino replaces Brian Williams, who is now the defensive coordinator at Jacksonville State. The Terps finished 2024 ranked 105th nationally in scoring defense, allowing 30.4 points per game. That number jumped to 36.1 in conference games as Maryland suffered through a 1-8 conference season, the program's sixth under Mike Locksley.
