Miles College has landed former Fort Valley State interim head coach Kenny Ray as its new offensive coordinator and running backs coach, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Friday. HBCU Premier Sports first reported the move.
Ray spent five seasons at Fort Valley State, twice serving as the Wildcats' interim head coach. In between, Ray was the associate head coach, run game coordinator and offensive line coach, leading a unit that paved the way for two Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference leading rushers. Fort Valley State's offensive line led the SIAC in sacks allowed in 2024.
Prior to Fort Valley State, Ray spent two decades in the FCS, coaching at Tennessee State, Howard, Alabama State, North Carolina A&T, Samford and Gardner-Webb, with an additional stop at ULM.
Ray joins a Miles College staff headed by Chris Goode, announced as the Golden Bears' new head coach on Jan. 3.
Miles College enjoyed one of the best seasons in school history in 2024. The Golden Bears went 10-3, went undefeated in SIAC play, beat Carson-Newman in the opening round of the Division II playoffs and fell to eventual runner-up Valdosta State in the second round. That success landed Sam Shade the Alabama A&M head coaching job, which brought Goode and Ray to Miles College.
