Source: Neal Brown and Texas in discussions for role on Longhorns staff (Texas)

Sources tell FootballScoop that former West Virginia head coach Neal Brown and Texas have had discussions about a role on the staff.

While conversations have been had, we understand Brown has not finalized a position with the program at this time and his exact role is not yet clear.

CBS Sports has shared similar, that Sark and Texas are targeting Brown for a role on the staff.

Brown, who was let go at the conclusion of last season after a 6-6 record, has been tied to a number of openings this off season, including a number of power conference offensive play calling opportunities.

He went 37-35 overall leading the Mountaineers, with his best season coming in 2023 when they finished 9-4.

Brown led the program to four bowl games, but finished above .500 just twice in six seasons.

His time in Morgantown came after a very successful run as the head coach at Troy, where he went 4-8 in his first season before rattling off three straight seasons of double-digit wins. He would leave the Trojans for West Virginia after the 2018 season with a 35-16 record in his first head coaching stint.

With successful coordinator stops at Troy, Texas Tech and Kentucky before becoming a head coach, the pairing in Austin would pair Brown's roots in the Air Raid with Steve Sarkisian, who is widely considered one of the best offensive play callers in college football.

Sark already recently added former West Virginia offensive coordinator Chad Scott to the staff as the new running backs coach, replacing Tashard Choice who left to coach running back for the Detroit Lions.
