Sources: Ohio adding former Oklahoma assistant to defensive staff (Chris Woods)

Ohio continues its post-Tim Albin transition.

The latest? Sources tell FootballScoop that the Bobcats have added a deeply experienced defensive coach to their staff.

Chris Woods is set to become Ohio's new linebackers coach under first-year coach Brian Smith, multiple sources tell FootballScoop.

It's a move to bring considerable coaching experience to Smith's first Ohio U staff; Woods owns experience at perennial power Oklahoma, as well as pro work with the XFL's Dallas Renegages as well as at the Big 12's Kansas Jayhawks.

Additionally, Woods spent the past several seasons as the linebackers coach at Temple.

Ohio, on the heels of a remarkable 11-win 2024 season, are set to open the 2025 slate Aug. 30 at Greg Schiano's Rutgers Scarlett Knights. A week later, Ohio hosts West Virginia in its second Rich Rodriguez iteration before traveling to defending College Football Playoff champion Ohio State.
