Mike Locksley: "I've learned in 33 years of coaching there are no utopias." (Featured)

Last week, while Maryland athletic director Damon Evans was in discussions to take the same position at SMU, Terps basketball coach Kevin Willard made waves by voicing frustrations with the school while he and Maryland work on a deal to secure his future leading the program.

Willard, who thanks to a buzzer beater last game by his star freshman Derik Queen has the Terps in the Sweet 16, called for better NIL resources and also noted a request he made around Christmas a few months ago when he wanted to keep the team in New York City for an extra night, but that request was denied by the school, noting it would be too expensive.

Asked about those comments recently, seventh-year head football coach Mike Locksley was asked if he saw Willard's comments and if he had any feelings on them.

"I'm an old-school D.C. guy. Family business is family business, so I really have no comment on it. If it doesn't pertain to my business, if it doesn't pertain to what I need to do...as I've stated, since I've been here, I have gotten the resources that I have needed to build a foundation."

"I've learned in 33 years of coaching, there are no utopias. Every family has their issues and dirty little secrets, but I'm of the opinion that those are handled individually and behind closed doors within the family ranks."

Coaches that have been around long enough will understand exactly what Locksley is saying about there being no utopias. Even the shiniest and most successful programs have warts somewhere.

Willard and the Terps men's basketball program will tip-off against #1 seed Florida tomorrow night about 7:40 in Sweet 16 action.
