One of the longest tenured head coaches at one program as Oklahoma State's head coach since 2005, Mike Gundy has a long and decorated history of saying exactly what is on his mind.
That was on full display earlier today, as Gundy was asked about the NCAA decision to reject the waiver that would have allowed Deion Sanders and Colorado to hold a join spring scrimmage with Fran Brown's Syracuse squad.
Gundy voiced last week he'd love to do the same type of thing with Oklahoma with proceeds going to fund NIL opportunities on each of their respective rosters, rotating the game between Stillwater and Norman or even being open to going to a neutral site and splitting the gate.
In the kind of way only a veteran coach can, Gundy encouraged teams to hold joint spring scrimmages with another team, much like NFL programs already do during their camp, and dared the NCAA to do something about it.
"I'll be honest with you. I'm not going to waste my time on who's going to determine what the rules are anymore, because essentially, there's not enough of them to follow."
"I'm not even sure how they have the grounds to say you can't do it. If somebody just goes and does it, what are they going to do to them?"
As the NCAA continues to seemingly lose its grip as the governing body of college sports (especially football and basketball), Gundy's sentiment is one that a lot of coaches and fans will applaud.
With the NCAA seeming more and more like a toothless predator, this seems like a classic case of the old adage, "sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness than permission."
I'm sure there are many across the country that feel the same way Mike Gundy does pic.twitter.com/E4xixQT3VY
