Norwich (D-III - VT) head coach Mark Murnyack has announced his decision to step down.
Murnyack led the program for the last 13 seasons and announced his decision publicly in a heartfelt letter posted on the school website.
The letter reads, in part:
The time has come for me to relinquish the reigns of the football program. Every day I have given my everything to do what I could to help the program be successful.
I love this place, I believe in what we do for students, and I feel like I had an impact. Thank you for everything that you have given to me and my family. Northfield has been my home for 21 of the past 26 years. I loved my time here and forged some great relationships.
Norwich University has always been a special place and I have been privileged to have the opportunity to lead the football program for the last 13 years. I will assess what is best for my family and make decisions that are consistent with that moving forward. Now, I look ahead to the next challenge.
In his first three seasons at the helm, from 2011-13, Murnack won seven games per season and went 21-11 overall.
However, wins have been harder to find as of recent, as the program went 1-9 this fall, and the Cadets won 3 games in 2022 and 2 games in 2021.
The program last finished above .500 in back-to-back seasons in 2014 and 2015, when they went 7-4 and 6-5, respectively.
The Division III coaching change is one of a handful at the small college level. Keep track of all coaching changes via our NFL and College head coach tracker page via this link.
