Alabama still paying Nick Saban quite a bit in part-time role (Nick Saban Salary)

Nick Saban is no longer Alabama's head coach, but he still has a role within Crimson Tide athletics and still has a place on the Crimson Tide's payroll.

A pretty high one, as it turns out.

Alabama is paying Saban $500,000 -- five hundred thousand dollars and four cents, to be exact -- to fulfill his as-yet-undefined duties, according to documents obtained by Alex Scarborough of Bama247. The document did not include a specific job title for the 6-time national champion head coach.

ESPN's Chris Low caught up with Saban in March and found he and Miss Terry still spend most of their time in Tuscaloosa and, when they were in town, Saban's office hours started around 7 a.m. but ended any time between noon and 4 p.m. Most of the job is simply to be Nick Saban, whatever that entails.

Saban will earn double what special teams coordinator Jay Nunez is set to make, and will check in just $50,000 below tight ends coach Bryan Ellis.

He'll also out-earn head men's golf coach Jay Seawell, head women's golf coach Mic Potter, head gymnastics coach Ashley Johnston, head rowing coach Glenn Putyrae, head soccer coach Wes Hart, head swimming coach Margo Geer, head men's tennis coach George Husack, head women's tennis coach Jonatan Berhane, head cross country/track & field coach Dan Waters, and head volleyball coach Rashinda Reed.

Of course, he's Nick Saban, and they're not. Alabama could pay him double the money for half the work, and he'd still be worth it. Alabama's president at the time called Saban the "best financial investment this university has ever made" in 2013, when he was only halfway to his eventual number of six rings.

The $500,000 salary represents a roughly 95 percent pay cut from the $11 million he made as head coach in 2023, but he and Miss Terry likely won't have to cut down on their Disney+ subscription to make ends meet. He's also joined ESPN as a GameDay panelist and also manages an array of outside investments.
