Four Alabama assistants are reportedly set to make at least $1 million per season (Kane Wommack)

It sounds crazy, but by this time next year, Alabama could have eight assistant coaches in the $1 million per year assistant coach club.

Gary L. Harris, the Sports Director at WVUA 23 in Tuscaloosa, shares that this season the Tide will have four assistant coaches making at least $1 million annually, with a handful of others in striking distance of that figure with raises of $100-$200k pretty customary after successful campaigns.

While Kalen DeBoer will be making $10 million annually, as we shared yesterday, defensive coordinator Kane Wommack will be the highest paid assistant on staff at $1.55 million per season.

Offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan, who stepped into the role following the departure of Ryan Grubb to the Seahawks, will make $1.35 million.

The promotion to offensive coordinator in Tuscaloosa marks a significant raise for Sheridan. As the tight ends coach at Washington last season, he made $450k annually, and made just $300k in 2022.

Assistant head coach / co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach JaMarcus Shephard will make $1.1 million annually. He made $800k at Washington.

Lastly, defensive line coach Freddie Roach, a holdover from Nick Saban's staff, will make $1 million this season.

The Tide will have at least four other highly compensated assistant coaches that will be a solid season away from joining the $1 million assistant club. Here's how the rest of the staff shakes out, per Harris.

  • Maurice Linguist (Co-DC / DBS) - $875k
  • Chris Kapilovic (OL) - $875k
  • Robert Gillespie (RBs) - $850k
  • Christian Robinson (OLBs) - $650k
  • Colin Hitschler (Co-DC) - $625k
  • Bryan Ellis (TEs) - $550k
  • David Ballou (S&C) - $950k
  • Jay Nunez (STC) - $250k
