It's not exactly a secret that first-year Charlotte head coach Biff Poggi has a unique background.
Before leaving Jim Harbaugh's staff at Michigan to take over his first college football program, Poggi won 13 state titles in 19 seasons leading the Gilman School (MD) before taking over the extremely successful St. Frances (MD) program.
That's just the football side of things though.
At St. Frances, Poggi not only founded the football program, but also served as head coach and developed it into a national power and blue-chip recruit factory while also leveraging his success as a hedge fund manager to personally fund 65 scholarships for the Baltimore-based school.
Poggi, who put together our #10 ranked new college football staff, had no illusions that taking over a Group of Five program that went just 3-9 last season was going to have its fair share of hurdles, but he's run into one area that he's finding increasingly frustrating.
On The Kyle Bailey Show, Poggi shared the one gripe he has since taking over.
"If there was one thing I would gripe about, it's that we need more support from the Charlotte community, financially."
"It's hard to get guys to write checks, and that's actually starting to ruffle my Italian feathers."
Poggi's experience before taking over at Charlotte uniquely qualifies him to share his perspective on what it takes to both build and fund a nationally recognized football program in a way that someone who rose through the ranks from GA to assistant, to coordinator, to head coach falls short.
With that unique perspective, and a platform on the radio and a budding HBO documentary in the works, Poggi's calculated comments are putting the city of Charlotte on notice.
Today on the @ClubhouseKB, @CharlotteFTBL head coach, @BiffPoggi joined @KyleBaileyClub to talk about the roster turnover this off-season, the importance of the HBO docuseries, & the one thing he's been upset with since taking the job
