Bill O'Brien reportedly working to retain three key assistants at Boston College (offense)

Last night we shared a report that Bill O'Brien was working on a deal to reunite with Will Lawing as his offensive coordinator, as the two have been together since O'Brien's Penn State days.

Today, Pete Thamel shares a clearer picture of what O'Brien's offensive staff could look like heading into year one.

Thamel's report shares that O'Brien is working to retain three assistants from the BC offensive staff in offensive line coach Matt Applebaum, receivers coach Darrell Wyatt and running backs coach Savon Huggins.

Applebaum was a member of Jeff Hafley's staff for his first two seasons in 2020 and 2021 before leaving to become the Dolphins offensive linne coach for a season. He returned a year later and just wrapped up his second season back with the program.

Huggins, a former running back at Rutgers, has been with the program since 2021 after a brief stint in the same role at UMass.

Just before the start of spring practices in 2022, Wyatt joined the staff to coach the receivers and added the pass game coordinator title before the 2023 season. He was instrumental in the development of Zay Flowers, who was a first-round draft pick by the Ravens in 2023 after he set a number of records during an All American 2022 season. He previously spent time with Josh Heupel and Gus Malzahn at UCF, and has coached at Houston and Texas as well.

Thamel also shared this morning that analyst / assistant quarterbacks coach Jonathan DiBiaso is expected to earn a promotion to quarterbacks coach for the program.
