Today was supposed to be Opening Day Eve for TCU. The Horned Frogs were slated to host SMU in the annual Iron Skillet rivalry on Friday, but that game was indefinitely postponed thanks to a spike in cases on TCU's roster.
Opening Day will have to wait until Sept. 26 for TCU, but most everyone else in the Big 12 and ACC kick off this week. The SEC will follow in two weeks. And, while not college football, the NFL will be fully underway by Monday night.
Even for those college and high school programs not playing this fall, Opening Day is still a herald of optimism for all. Hope springs eternal. Life begins anew. Better days are ahead.
Gary Patterson, future Hall of Fame coach and published recording artist, has released an anthem marking Opening Day, both for this season and the concept of opening day for the seasons to come.
