Georgia Southern reportedly set to lose defensive coordinator to NFL (Will Harris)

Georgia Southern defensive coordinator Will Harris is reportedly leaving after one season for an opportunity in the NFL.

Harris is expected to join the Chargers staff as defensive backs coach, Matt Zenitz tweets this morning.

In his one season, the defensive unit for the Eagles ranked among the top 20 nationally in red zone defense, forcing 15 stops in the red zone, which ranked second nationally.

Before leaving for opportunity to run his own defense at Georgia Southern, Harris spent three seasons as the defensive backs coach at Washington, where in 2021 both corners earned Pac-12 first-team honors.

Before joining the Washington staff, Harris coached the defensive backs at San Jose State, Dixie College, Humboldt State, and Northwestern Oklahoma State. While at Dixie College,  he held the co-defensive coordinator title with the program.

The defensive coordinator change for Georgia Southern will mark the 45th change of the off season in major college football.
