Gus Malzahn bringing longtime lieutenant with him to Florida State, per report (Herb Hand)

Herb Hand will follow Gus Malzahn from Orlando to Tallahassee, Brandon Marcell of CBS Sports reported Monday.

Hand has long served as the general contractor to Malzahn's architect. The pair first worked together at Tulsa, when head coach Todd Graham hired Malzahn as co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach and Hand as co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach. Malzahn was new to college football then, fresh off an explosive debut season at Arkansas, while Hand had coached a decade and a half in the college game.

The two went their separate ways after Tulsa but linked back up at Auburn, when Tigers head coach Malzahn hired Hand as his offensive line coach. That pairing saw Auburn win 10 games and reach the SEC Championship in 2017.

Hand then spent 2018-20 at Texas, but the pair united for a third time when Malzahn took the UCF head coaching job.

The 2025 campaign will be Malzahn and Hand's ninth season together, at their fourth different program.

Malzahn and Hand together replace Alex Atkins, who served as Florida State's offensive coordinator and offensive line coach before he was let go last month. 'Noles head coach Mike Norvell has also hired Nebraska's Tony White to coordinate the defense.
