Luke Fickell when asked who will call the offense: "Why does it matter?" (Luke Fickell)

Yesterday, just days after Wisconsin battled top-ranked Oregon to the wire before losing in a tight 16-13 game at home, Luke Fickell announced the decision to make a change at offensive coordinator.

With Phil Longo no longer mentoring quarterbacks and calling the offense for the Badgers with two games remaining, it's only natural to wonder how those duties will get picked up by the rest of the Badgers staff.

Asked today about who will step in to call plays for the Badgers moving forward, Fickell provided a rather interesting answer.

"Why does it matter? The offense will be run, and those guys will do a lot of things collaboratively together, and I don't think it's really that important as to who is calling it."

"I guess it gives you the ability to point the finger at somebody if that's the case, but it's not one of those things that I think is that important. Sometimes I think it is overrated in some ways."

"It will be a collaborative effort and those guys will have to work a lot together."

The Badgers have a young and promising receivers coach in Kenny Guiton on staff, who has SEC experience under his belt after stepping into the interim offensive coordinator role last fall following the in-season dismissal of Dan Enos.

Outside of Guiton, the offensive staff consists of Nate Letton (TEs), Devon Spalding (RBs) - both of whom are talented young coaches, but have not had additional duties outside of their position groups yet - and offensive line coach AJ Blazek, who has coached offensive lines at Rutgers, NDSU and Vanderbilt since 2016. Blazek did hold co-offensive coordinator title at Winona State over a decade ago, and was the run game coordinator at Western Illinois (FCS) for two seasons in 2014-15.

Wisconsin will face off with Nebraska and Dana Holgorsen, who will be heading into his second game calling the Huskers offense following their loss to USC last weekend, and then they will end their season with Minnesota at home.

The Badgers are 5-5 and will need to win one of those to earn bowl eligibility.
