Marshall planning to fill defensive coordinator opening with an ACC coordinator

Charles Huff had a significant opening on staff with the departure of defensive coordinator Lance Guidry, who coordinated one of the top defensive units in college football last season.

To fill it, a report this evening shares that Huff is turning to an ACC coordinator sources confirm to FootballScoop. 

Jason Semore, who spent last season at Georgia Tech as their special teams coordinator, is set to be the new defensive coordinator for the Thundering Herd. Matt Zenitz first shared the news, 

Semore was a finalist for our FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year Award this past season.

2022 marked the first season back at Georgia Tech for Semore, who spent the 2021 season as the defensive coordinator at Valdosta State (D-II - GA), where he helped lead the Blazers to the Division II national title game.

Prior to that, he spent a few seasons on the Georgia Tech staff in a defensive analyst role.

He has prior successful experience as a defensive coordinator at Montana (FCS), Colorado School of Mines (D-II), Adams State (D-II) as well as Valdosta State.
