Roc Bellantoni, fired last week at FAU, is returning to the staff (Tom Herman)

Well, you don't see this happening during coaching change season often.

In a strange turn of events, Bellantoni is reportedly set to rejoin the Owls staff.

Adam Rittenberg shares that the veteran defensive coordinator is being rehired as defensive coordinator.

The move comes after FAU announced the dismissal of head coach Tom Herman as FAU was mired in a five-game losing streak after a loss to Temple dropped them to 2-8 on the year.

Now back on staff, Bellantoni will work under interim head coach Chad Lunsford and take back over the defense after Brandon Harris stepped in as interim defensive coordinator for last week's game.

Technically speaking, this will mark Bellantoni's third defensive coordinator stint at FAU.

He was among Tom Herman's first hires since when he took the Florida Atlantic job in December of 2022. Bellantoni was previously FAU's defensive coordinator from 2014-16, and has previously been the special teams coordinator at Villanova, Buffalo, and Utah State.

Update >> Bellantoni has confirmed the news, in perhaps the most epic way possible. Hit play. Trust me.
