Shepherd (D-II - WV) has hired a replacement for offensive coordinator Tyler Haines, who left to become the head coach at Catawba College (D-II - NC).
Tom Clark, who held the role of assistant head coach / defense last year at Hampden-Sydney (D-III - VA), has accepted the offensive coordinator job.
Prior to his one season at Hampden-Sydney, Clark had a successful run as the defensive coordinator at VMI.
During VMI's Southern Conference title season in 2020 when they went 6-2, Clark was recognized as one of the top coordinators of the FCS ranks as a finalist for the FootballScoop Coordinator of the Year Award.
The hire marks a trend for Shepherd, as their last two offensive coordinators now have previously served as defensive coordinators before joining Ernie McCook's staff. Haines, who had been a coordinator on both sides of the ball as well as a Division II head coach, was the defensive coordinator at Baldwin Wallace (D-III - OH) prior to arriving at Shepherd.
Clark takes the reigns of one of the top offenses in all of Division II football, as they finished second nationally in total offense and among the top 10 in scoring during their 13-2 season where they lost to Colorado Mines (D-II) in the national semifinals.
