Sources: Brown hiring defensive line coach with ACC experience (Georgetown)

After recently solidifying the offensive staff in working towards a deal for a new offensive line coach, Brown and coach James Perry also are finalizing a deal for a new defensive line coach, FootballScoop has learned.

Phil DeCapito, who has more than six years' experience under Pat Narduzzi with ACC program Pittsburgh, is joining Perry's staff as the program's new defensive line coach, sources tell FootballScoop.

A former collegiate player at Emory & Henry, DeCapito has previous coaching experience at staple FCS program Youngstown State, where his father played for Pat Narduzzi's father, Bill, and also under Mike Norvell during a one-year stay on the Memphis Tigers staff.

But DeCapito primarily has tutored under Narduzzi, spending more than a half-dozen years in the Pitt Panthers program -- first as a graduate assistant and then promoted to a full-time role as a defensive quality control coach.

The former defensive coordinator at NCAA Division II program Lake Erie College, DeCapito primarily worked with the defensive front during his most recent six-year run as a Panthers quality control coach.

Brown opens its fifth season under Perry Sept. 21 in Washington, D.C., at Georgetown. The Bears are coming off a 5-5 campaign -- their best to date under Perry and matching the program's most wins in any single season since a six-win campaign in 2013.
