Sources: Eastern Illinois set to fill their offensive coordinator opening
With offensive coordinator Joe Davis leaving for his first head coaching opportunity at Western Illinois (FCS), Eastern Illinois is keeping things in-house to fill the offensive play caller vacancy.
Sources tell FootballScoop that assistant head coach Kyle Derickson will be the new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the program.
The last two seasons Derickson served as special teams coordinator and wide receivers coach for the Panthers.
Derickson previously served as the offensive coordinator for EIU head coach Chris Wilkerson while the two were at University of Chicago (D-III - IL) together.
There, Derickson helped the program set 9 school records in 2021, and led an offense that ranked among the top 20 nationally in seven key offensive categories.
When Wilkerson left Chicago for the opportunity to lead the FCS program at Eastern Illinois, he brought Derickson with him while retaining Joe Davis as the Panthers offensive coordinator. Just prior to the head coaching change at EIU, Davis had joined the staff of Adam Cushing before he left for the offensive line job at Duke.
Now Derickson is set to slide into the familiar play calling job under Wilkerson for the second time in his coaching career.
Derickson previously served as the director of player personnel at the FBS level at Western Michigan.
