The Florida Gators will never face the Arizona Cardinals on the field, but one can imagine in Gainesville they're quickly building disdain for their tormentors from out west.
After losing defensive play-caller Patrick Toney to the Cardinals, sources confirmed to FootballScoop on Wednesday that Gators tight ends coach William Peagler is also set to join Jonathan Gannon's new staff in the desert. On3 first reported the news on Wednesday.
Peagler, 37, has charted an interesting path to the NFL. He was a student assistant from 2006-09 at Clemson who has coached in Division II, the Kansas junior college ranks, Mississippi high school football, and held half-a-dozen different GA/support staff roles before earning his first on-field FBS position coaching spot as Michigan State's running backs coach in 2020.
Prior winners named Peagler the FootballScoop Running Backs Coach of the Year in 2021, and shortly thereafter Billy Napier hired him away to coach tight ends at Florida.
Peagler will now transition to coaching defense with the Cardinals, per ESPN's Adam Rittenberg.
