Sources: Larry Coker will not return at UTSA
Larry Coker will not return as head coach at UTSA, sources tell FootballScoop.
Coker brought the long-awaited Roadrunners' football program into existence in 2011, cresting with an 8-4 season as a member of the Western Athletic Conference in 2012 and a 7-5 mark (and 6-2 in league play) in Conference USA a year later. But the program fell to 7-17 over the past two seasons, and athletics director Lynn Hickey will opt to search for the second head coach in UTSA football history. Coker signed a new contract running through the 2018 season in August 2014.
The move arrives with interesting timing, as rival Texas State is also in search of a head coach at this time.
Coker, an Oklahoma native and 20-year coaching veteran in that state, led Miami to a 60-15 mark with a national championship from 2001-06.
