South Carolina tight ends coach Jody Wright is expected to be the next head coach at Murray State, sources told FootballScoop on Wednesday.
Murray State is looking for a new head coach after Dean Hood took an off-the-field role at Kentucky.
Wright has been on Shame Beamer's Gamecocks staff since 2022. He spent the two prior seasons with the New York Giants, working with the linebackers in 2020 and the running backs in '21. He also worked with the Cleveland Browns' running backs in 2019.
A Jacksonville State grad, Wright last worked at the FCS level as the tight ends coach, passing game coordinator and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater in 2013.
Wright spent many seasons as part of Nick Saban's staff at Alabama. He was a GA on two national championship teams in 2011-12, then returned to help the Tide win two more titles as director of player personnel from 2015-17.
Murray State has gone 2-9 in each of the past two seasons. The Racers left the Ohio Valley Conference to join the ultra-competitive Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2023.
