For years, arguably no strength and conditioning coach in college football had more success or was studied more by others in the field than Tommy Moffitt.
The former head of LSU's strength and conditioning program, Moffitt had a distinguished run of success that included his work at LSU, as well as the University of Tennessee, and also spawned numerous proteges of Moffitt around college football.
Moffitt is back at college football's top level, sources tell FootballScoop.
Mike Elko and Texas A&M are working to finalize a deal to hire Moffitt to run the Aggies' strength and conditioning program.
Moffitt had been working private sector since his exit a couple years ago from LSU.
He logged more than 20 years at LSU, helping Nick Saban, Les Miles and Ed Orgeron all win national championship on the bayou; additionally, Moffitt was named FootballScoop's 2019 Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year.
The Tennessee Tech grad rose to the role of associate head strength and conditioning coach at Tennessee before he was hired away by LSU and uncorked one of the longest-tenured, most distinguished for any coach in his position in modern college football.
Elko has continued to assemble his inaugural Texas A&M staff after the school hired him away from his two-year rebuilding job at Duke.
