Sources: Texas Tech expected to bring Garret McGuire aboard offensive staff (Texas Tech Football Coaching Staff)

Garret McGuire is expected to join Texas Tech's offensive staff, sources told FootballScoop on Thursday.

Head coach Joey McGuire, Garret's father, is in the process of re-making his coaching staff after firing defensive coordinator Tim DeRuyter and seeing offensive coordinator Zach Kittley take the Florida Atlantic head coaching position. Shiel Wood was announced as the Red Raiders' new defensive coordinator on Wednesday, and McGuire moved to hire Texas State offensive coordinator Mack Leftwich on Thursday

McGuire's specific role has not been outlined, sources told FootballScoop, but it's expected he'll work with offensive skill players in some capacity.

McGuire appeared in six games as a quarterback and special teams player at Baylor from 2017-20 before joining Matt Rhule's coaching staff with the Carolina Panthers from 2021-22. Rhule then brought McGuire aboard as wide receivers coach at Nebraska, a job he held the past two seasons.

Rhule appointed Dana Holgorsen as Nebraska's offensive coordinator last month, and earlier this week Holgorsen hired Daikiel Shorts, Jr., as the Huskers' new wide receivers coach. Shorts coached with Holgorsen at West Virginia and Houston.
