Reports: Alabama High School Coach Charged with Assault (AHSAA)

An Alabama high school football coach and athletics director has been charged with assault, according to multiple reports Tuesday evening.

Theodore High School's Eric Collier is among four persons charged – all last name Collier – following a Bayou La Batre (Alabama) incident in the coastal town at the southern tip of Mobile Bay along the Gulf of Mexico.

Eric Collier is both the school's veteran head football coach and director of athletics.

Warrants were issued for all four Colliers, Bayou La Batre Detective Robbie Morrow announced in a release.

Eric Collier is a Bayou La Batre native who has served as head coach at Theodore High School for the past eight seasons.

A high school coaching veteran of more than 25 years, Collier just two years ago was honored with the Lefty Anderson Service Through Coaching Award at a Mobile, Alabama, banquet hosted at the University of South Alabama.

Yet various reports of this incident paint an extremely violent picture of the scene that unfolded along the harbor of the tiny community with a population just more than 2,600 according to the latest census figures.

Collier is coming off of one of his most successful seasons at Theodore, which competes at the Class 7A level in Alabama High School Athletic Association competition.

The Bobcats were 10-2 in 2020, including an 8-0 mark for the Class 7A-Region 1 title.
