After sharing word yesterday that Kalen DeBoer was nabbing South Alabama's Kane Wommack be his defensive coordinator, DeBoer is set to add another Group of Five head coach to his defensive staff.
Sources confirm that Buffalo head coach Maruice Linguist is expected to join the staff as a defensive assistant.
ESPN has reported the same.
Linguist just wrapped up his third season as the head coach at Buffalo.
He is 14-23 overall in his first head coaching stint, leading Buffalo to a bowl win in year two, finishing that season 7-6.
Linguist led Buffalo to a 3-9 mark this past fall, and has had a number of staffers leave for other opportunities, including defensive coordinator Robert Wright to Syracuse, and most recently defensive line coach Cedric Douglas to Utah State.
Before taking over the Buffalo program, Linguist spent time at Iowa State, Mississippi State, Minnesota, and Texas A&M working in the secondary before spending a season in the NFL with the Cowboys coaching the defensive backs.
Buffalo opening will mark the 27th FBS head coaching change of the cycle.
